Microsoft Has Discontinued The Kinect Adapter For Newer Xbox One Consoles

Microsoft stopped manufacturing Kinects in October, but the company's once-sung camera sensor has suffered a death today, as Microsoft confirms to Polygon that it has stopped producing on the Kinect Adapter, making it virtually impossible for new owners of Xbox One S and One X does not yet have an adapter for their consoles. (The adapter is also used to make use of the Kinect with a Windows 10 PC).

Microsoft originally offered the dongle to owners of Xbox One S for free to allow them to continue using the Kinect with the newer version of the console, before charging $ 39.99 for the adapter after the promotion ended. In a statement to Polygon, a Microsoft spokesman commented that, "After careful consideration, we decided to stop making the Xbox Kinect adapter to focus on launching new game accessories requested by fans on Xbox One and Windows 10. "

The Kinect adapter is no longer available in almost all major retailers, leaving users still waiting to use Kinect at the mercy of the second-hand market, where the adapter costs between $ 150 and $ 300, which makes it a proposition incredibly expensive waiting to take a Kinect for your Xbox One or ever use one that is accumulating dust in a closet.

And so, with Microsoft's confirmation that it has officially suspended the Kinect Adapter, it seems it's time to close the book in the era of games in motion once and for all, at least, until someone tries to resurrect the idea in a few years
